The Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO) will have three presentations in Costa Rica, two of them for free and the third one will be a fund raiser.

The first concert will take place this Sunday, June 11th at the National Theater in San José at 5 p.m.; those interested in attending have to consider there is a limited number of tickets available according to the capacity of the theater and these can be picked up at the theater’s booth.

The Orchestra directed by Jack Taylor and David Cubek will be performing work by composers such as Richard Meyer, Pietro Mascagni, George Gershwin, Alberto Ginastera and Leonard Bernstein.

The second concert is a raise funder for the Project Tierra Fértil, which helps communities in extreme poverty by providing the children with attention, food and activities that promote the incorporation of the community members creating a positive and healthy environment and a motivation for change. This concert will take place at Lincoln School in Santo Domingo, Heredia and the tickets will have a cost of 5,000 colones. For more information call: 2237-1000 and 2249-6276.

The last concert is scheduled for Friday, June 17th in the catholic church of La Fortuna, San Carlos starting at 8 p.m.

“The Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra has performed throughout the world, including venues in Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and many others. The PYSO has also appeared in concert with the United States Air Force Academy Band – Blue Steel – at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO”, explains its website.

The band is formed by 70 young and talented musicians ages 11 through 18.

Each year, more than 300 students from 50 different schools audition to be a part of this prestigious program designed specifically for students in the age group mentioned above.
