PayPal has extended its consumer protection coverage to include customers in 12 Latin American countries including Costa Rica, reported the region’s Summa business magazine.
The service, which went into effect last week, aims to put customers more at ease when buying online, and is already available in several Latin American countries including Mexico and Brazil.
PayPal said they will now reimburse users in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and the Dominican Republic up to US$25 in return postage to return any unsatisfactory online purchases. Customers can take advantage of the service up to 12 times per year.
A 2016 study by Ipsos and PayPal found that 31 percent of Latin American customers said they feared receiving a product that differed from its online description as one of the main barriers to online shopping.
PayPal is attempting to overcome this obstacle by assuming the expenses associated with returning items purchased online. The service is available for customers who make purchases using PayPal and only applies to tangible products purchased in full (so, does not apply to video or music downloads for example).
According to Summa business magazine, PayPal users need to activate the refund service during their transactions with PayPal.
Any unsatisfactory products must be returned by following the steps outlined in the refund policy. A refund for shipping charges can be requested by attaching proof of payment for shipping.
Reimbursements for qualifying returns will be made within five business days from the date on which the refund was approved, explained Summa.
