Once again the Poás Volcano interrupted its relative calm period and during the afternoon of this Friday, June 2, Poás Volcano presented a couple of small size eruptions which included an ash column.

So far, this volcano´s activity had consisted mostly of phreatic eruptions, which means they contained mostly steam and vapor; however, the eruptions today as it was clearly captured by the cameras of the National Seismology Network, included ash.

The activity was registered at 1:30 p.m. local time, and it was followed by several smaller eruption and another big one at 5:30 p.m. which reached 600m above the crater and 3,308 meters above sea level.

The images also show that most of the water in the lake has disappeared leaving only a small quantity in the north sector. The column of ash was being dispersed to the West.

The National University’s Volcanology and Seismology Research Institute (OVSICORI) and the Seismology Network, continue to monitor the activity of the Poás Volcano, Turrialba and Rincón de la Vieja, all which have presented variable activity in the past few weeks.
