Washington, Jan 10 (EFE).– The Powerball lottery hit $1.3 billion on Sunday, making it the richest lottery prize ever up for grabs in the United States, where lottery fever has afflicted millions of people.

No one won the Powerball drawing on Saturday night, with the prize money rolling over to the next drawing.

Hundreds of millions of dollars were wagered on Friday and Saturday, with long lines reported at stores selling Powerball tickets in the 44 participating states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, but no one correctly selected the winning numbers: 32, 16, 19, 57, 34 and 13.

The Powerball prize was $947.8 million on Saturday night and will rise to about $1.3 billion for the Wednesday, Jan. 13, drawing, the Multi-State Lottery Association, or MUSL, said.

The odds of guessing the six numbers correctly are estimated at one in 292.2 million.

Powerball drawings have been held 19 times since November without a winner, pumping up the prize. EFE
