Nepotism is basically the practice of those in power of favoring relatives or friends usually by offering them jobs or specific positions. President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis signed this March 13 the Anti-Nepotism Law in the Legislative Assembly.
This law modifies Article 49 of the Personnel Law of the Legislative Assembly -Law N.4556, by adding a paragraph that states that trust personnel cannot be linked by consanguinity or in direct or in collateral line affinity up to second degree inclusively, to any member of congress of the political fraction for which he/she was hired.
“This important project presented by deputy Gerardo Vargas of the Frente Amplio political party, is an essential topic that gives more transparency to public administration, that controls and eliminates specifically the appointment of family members in the Legislative Assembly. This seems to be the completion of a long process that this government has supported to offer more clarity to the form in which from an ethical point public matters are handled”, commented Solis.
