The candidates for the presidency of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado from the Citizens’ Action Party (PAC) and Fabricio Alvarado from the National Restoration Party (PRN), finished their public campaigns in the second round of elections which be celebrated with a winner April 1st.

With a survey showing a “statistical draw” and another one giving Fabricio Alvarado the lead, Costa Ricans have only one more week to decide who will be their president for the next four years.

Fabricio Alvarado held a public presentation in Desamparados, San Jose and in his speech he referred to the many mistakes, that in his opinion, the current administration made, among them, the rise in the homicide rate , the “Cementazo” corruption scandal, and what he considers a neglect of the family, unemployment and social inequity.

“On April 1st we will get a result in favor of returning the peace and tranquility to the families that today feel insecure due to a government that has not known how to work in the area of security and that gives us today a record high in homicides, femicides, and car thefts. It’s not fair, it’s not fair that after four years of giving them the vote, many Costa Ricans, with the hope for a change, didn’t get that change, and got more of the same”, said Fabricio Alvarado, who went on to assure that during his government no one would be discriminated.

On the other hand, Carlos Alvarado, along with other political figures from different parties, gave his speech at the Plaza de las Garantias Sociales in San Jose.

The candidate of PAC stated that the country’s challenges include the elimination of fossil fuels, advancing in the use of clean energies, as well as extending the quality of the public education bringing technology to the education centers. He commented he had the goal of making Costa Rica the most educated country in Latin America, and guaranteeing the efficiency of public expenses.

“(…) a Government for everyone, for all families, for all people, there are no second class citizens, no second class families (…). People hear of peace, people hear of environment, people hear of the respect of human rights”, stressed Carlos Alvarado.

One of the main figures of the Citizen’s Action Party Otton Solis, called on people to exercise their right and duty to vote “For one more day of sun, we could have four years of darkness… Call off your vacation”, he stated.
