On April 4, the Costa Rica Minister of Justice and Peace, Marco Feoli and the Executive Director of the Melico Salazar Theater, Marielos Fonseca, signed a cooperation agreement with the purpose of organizing and implementing activities geared towards the promotion of culture and art for prisoners.
The agreement will allow prisoners that have good conduct to attend artistic and cultural events, as well as conferences and workshops that take place at the Melico Salazar Theater in San Jose, and in this way get this population close to these type of activities.
“This agreement is a new opportunity to reaffirm the intention of the Nation in having a penitentiary system where people are treated with dignity and decency. I offer my gratitude to the Melico Salazar Theater to join Justice in this aspiration. There are changes that are irreversible, turning our eyes to the population in jails is one of them“, stated minister Feoli.
“The union between the Ministry of Justice and Peace and our institution is of great importance to take all these people that are in prison and have good behavior to enjoy quality artistic performances, this allows them to get out of their routine, its a motivation, and they can learn about the different forms of art. Generating this type of alliances is fundamenal for the cultural development of the country”, commented Fonseca.
