It is the gold standard in the political communications industry — mainstream media uses it, Fox News uses it, Rush Limbaugh uses it, CNN uses it, too. They all use it.

The Chicago-based RealClearPolitics.com formed in 2000 with only two people and now it employs more than two dozen journalists, editors and commentators. Their self-described mission is to present easy access to diversity of opinions and these days there is no shortage of political opinions – everybody has one. Every day this website updates with all the latest political controversies – blow by blow – involving President Donald Trump, Washington politicians caught up in sex scandals right along with the rich and powerful in Hollywood and the latest political polling information – all the polls of state and federal elections and approval ratings for the president and congress.

For the upcoming mid-term national election on Nov. 6, RealClearPolitics.com is in overdrive.

“We’re trying to pull together the best political stories, op-eds, news analyses, editorials out there. The proliferation of content is enormous,” said founder John McIntyre. “Part of what we’re trying to do is distill it in a clear, simple way for people who don’t have hours to spend searching the Net … we’re not looking for the over-the-top, vitriolic, red-meat craziness on either side … We’re trying to stay immersed in the nation’s political bloodstream at all times. That way, we can show you every small, little twist and turn, and give multiple sides to every story.”

Critics of RealClearPolitics.com say it has a conservative slant and it manipulates polling averages in favor of conservative candidates, but McIntyre says no.

“We’re running a business. We have no interest in screwing around with that for partisan purposes,” he said.

One topic burning up RealClearPolitics.com is the fallout from the recent cancellation of the renewed hit TV situation comedy ‘Roseanne.’ Roseanne Barr’s recent late-night tweeting led to her self-inflicted demise and there is no standing up for her clearly racist rants she posted on Twitter. But did ABC-TV make the right decision to end ‘Roseanne’ now, even in light of signing the show for a second season? Some say yes, others say no.

A couple of weeks ago ABC-TV issued a statement about giving ‘Roseanne’ the go ahead for next season, but they also said the show would be “less political” and more about family issues. Barr immediately fired back that she had not agreed to any of ABC-TV’s “less political” statement, so ABC-TV may have just been looking for a reason to pull the plug on ‘Roseanne’ instead of fighting with Barr on script content show after show.

What ABC-TV should have done and still could is to conduct a live on-air unscripted intervention on the set of ‘Roseanne,’ with the complete cast and some of those people that work on the show behind the scenes. It is a given that all these people have been hurt by what Barr did, and she’s been in this hot seat before. Bring in TV’s leading shrink — Dr. Phil — to moderate or referee the intervention to confront Barr about her attitudes toward others – all in front of a nationwide audience of millions. Interventions are conducted all the time with alcoholics or drug addicts being confronted by their family, friends and co-workers, but not on live nationwide TV drawing in large ratings.

Barr would be able to respond one-on-one with all her co-workers as they look her in the eye and express their anger and/or frustrations. The subject of Barr’s racist tweets Valerie Jarrett – a former President Obama advisor — could be there as well. Wouldn’t doing something like this be more beneficial than simply saying goodbye to ‘Roseanne’ and her legions of followers?

What about forgiveness and redemption for Roseanne Barr? Perhaps, the viewers at home could decide if the show stays or goes and not the executives in control of ABC-TV and their sponsors.

How about those late-night comedians that every night say vulgar, rude, vile and disparaging comments against President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, first-daughter Ivanka Trump and all the rest of the Trump clan on live nationwide TV – not on Twitter. These not funny comedians get away with it night after night on ABC, CBS and NBC, but Roseanne Barr makes a mistake – which she has acknowledged and apologized for – she gets thrown off the air and it’s not fair.
