New York, Apr 16 (EFE).– Rupert Murdoch is putting his 3-story New York apartment on the market for $72 million.

The 84-year-old communications magnate, who was born Australian but became a nationalized U.S. citizen, has decided to move from the Manhattan apartment, with its 637 square meters (about 6,850 square feet) of floor space, to a Greek Revival townhouse in the center of the island.

He bought the apartment – which has fabulous views of the Hudson and East Rivers – in February 2014 but never actually moved into it.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the apartment occupies the 58th, 59th and 60th floor of the One Madison building, in downtown Manhattan, and is still under construction, but – when finalized – it doesn’t seem as if Murdoch will be staying there at all.

He also bought a three-bedroom apartment on the 57th floor of the building and moved there originally planning to move upstairs to the larger apartment when construction was completed.

But now, although he will keep the apartment on the 57th floor of the building, he will be moving to a house for which he paid $25 million last month, according to the Journal, and so he has decided to put his “penthouse” up for sale.

Murdoch bought the entire space in One Madison for $57.25 million last year and now he is asking $72 million for just the three upper floors.

His new home has 600 square meters (about 6,450 square feet), a private elevator, a wine cellar that can hold 1,200 bottles and a gym.

Murdoch is the executive chairman of News Corp, the owner of Dow Jones & Company, which publishes The Wall Street Journal, and is also the chairman and CEO of 21st Century Fox. EFE
