Yesterday, during the classification rounds, the temperature in the race-car cabins marked 50⁰C (122⁰F), these were the conditions that the pilots from the Costa Rica Touring Car Championship had to deal with, still they battled through the heavy heat and pilot Danny Formal, part of the Hyundai team, won the pole position for today’s race.
This Sunday, however, the heavy rains that affected the central valley early in the afternoon, forced the organization to cancel the second date of the CTCC since the conditions of the track were not optimal to race safely. Only the first heat of the Hankook Cup will be considered; as announced by the CTCC in their facebook page, media and the attending public are still waiting to receive further details regarding the suspension of the event and how it will be handled as we head to the third date in May 13 (Endurance Cup).
Yesterday, when Formal took the pole position he added five points to his score, which brought him to 71 points; José Andrés Montalto who took the first position in the first date of the CTCC finished fifth in the classification adding only 1 point and bringing his total to 74. Andrés Saravia from Chevrolet Pennzoil classified in second position.
The first heat ran today had Andrés Saravia in the first place, followed by Chevrolet’s André Solano and defending champion Juan Carlos Alvarado from Suzuki managed third place; while the winner of the first date José Andrés Montalto came in fourth an Danny Formal took a seventh place.
