To celebrate the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (May 17th), the Costa Rican National University (UNA, in Spanish) Student Federation organized a special event.

Starting May 15 at the UNA Sarapiquí campus, and conclude on May 26 in Nicoya and Liberia, the sexual diversity caravan (CaravanaDeLaDiversidadSexual) emphasizes love and respect, and will highlight demonstrations of affection, including kissing and hugging, for which students were asked to submit photos on the subject as part of the event.

Talks, presentations and artistic activities will address issues such as transsexuality in Costa Rica and the reality of homosexual people in the southern region, free HIV testing, a support group of friends and relatives of sexually diverse people. The events are aimed at creating , “A space of dialogue and respect, in which students … understand this is a place free of discrimination of any kind,” said caravan organizers.

Student federation president, Daniela Alpízar, said she is committed to bringing the message of love and respect to all the regions of the country through the sexual diversity caravan.

“We maintain the clear position of recognizing love in all its colors, forms and expressions as something inherent in all people and that deserves respect in any of its presentations,” said the student leader.

At the main Omar Dengo campus of the UNA in Heredia, the rainbow sexual diversity flag will be raised at noon today, May 17.
