The health authorities of Costa Rica announced today that the total of positive cases of Covid-19 in the country is up to 662 cases, only two new cases since Sunday. The total includes 317 women and 345 men, 606 Costa Rican and 56 foreigners.

Unfortunately, a sixth patient passed away this Monday, the deceased was a 54 year-old man that had several underlying health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, he had been hospitalized on March 6th but had already tested negative for the virus on April 7th, however, he is still considered as a victim of Covid-19 because this is the reason he was first admitted and the hospital.

According to the Ministry of Health a total 7,236 people have tested negative, while 124 have made a full recovery, 13 remain hospitalized and 8 in the intensive care unit.

During the press conference the Government also informed that the borders will remain closed to foreigners through May 15.

The number of new positive cases has been low throughout the past week, probably a result of the stricter restrictions that were implemented during Holy Week, however, the Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, insisted on the importance of maintaining the measures, “We still have not overcome this pandemic; it is very early to think about going back to a normal life”, commented Salas.

The Ministry of Work confirmed that the first 33,000 families that requested financial assistance and have gone through the respective approval process have already received a deposit of 125,000 colones ($222.38 USD) to help with their monthly expenses.
