
High school students from the Technical Institute Honduras were evacuated yesterday by police with tear gas and clubs, demanding a bonus payment at the boulevard of the Armed Forces in this capital.
According to reports published by the digital media and elheraldo.hn and latribuna.hn at least five of the young participants in the protest were arrested by National Police.
Jorge Jimenez, one of the students, told reporters after talks with the government, it has signed a pact that has failed and now offers to exchange gas and clubs, which is reprehensible.
He explained that students require student bonus payment of 600 lempiras (31.48 dollars) to 180 000 students in 422 secondary schools in the country and to cease repression and reforms to the Fundamental Law of Education.
It was also confirmed that Honduran teachers began on Monday a new phase of protests covering each of the 18 departments.
The strike began in the department of Francisco Morazán and for Wednesday classes in Copan Comayagua and Atlantida will be suspended, said Oscar Recarte, president of the Association of Secondary Teachers of Honduras.
Later on Thursday classes will cease in Lempira, La Paz, Yoro and protesta are scheduled for Friday in Intibucá, Islas de la Bahía and Gracias a Dios, and then continue next week in the other departments, he added.
Recarte said protesting against a ruling by the Supreme Court that annulled constitutional challenges brought by several organizations against legislation imposed by the Government to infringe the rights acquired by the teachers.
