Bedroom painted with Glidden colors
By Carolina Ruiz
During childhood, it is necessary to create fun and safe environments; in adolescence, bedrooms should be places that allow them to feel part of society while still being unique. Colors play an important role in this matter.
For most of us in Costa Rica, our bedroom is a sacred place: not only for being a private room, but also because it is a visual expression of who we are.
In childhood, bedrooms are spaces that can stimulate creativity and imagination while generating feelings of safety. In the adolescence stage, which is when kids start to define who they will become as adults, bedrooms are the places where people start showing certain interests and ways of relating to the world that will define them as adults.
Once children are ready to explore the world, they need a stimulating environment that encourages healthy growth. Using age-appropriate, ergonomic and educational furniture in an environment of bright colors is crucial in this regard.
“Our specialists are aware of this and are ready to advise all parents who wish to choose the best colors to decorate the bedrooms of their children,” says Horacio Dobal, Director of Marketing and Brand PPG LATAM Comex, a major enterprise dedicated to paints and coatings in Costa Rica and Central America.
When childhood ends and early adolescence begins, the inner metamorphosis that the kid is going through should be manifested in their bedrooms as well.
In this regard, psychoanalyst Joseph Knobel Freud has remarked that the bedroom is the space that allows adolescents to become independent before leaving home. Therefore, Knobel Freud believes that bedrooms of adolescents should be decorated according to their tastes in furniture and colors.
According to Dobal, it is important to keep in mind how colors influence emotions. “According to their intensity, warmth or coolness, each tone is able to cause different moods,” said the specialist.
For example, Dobal explains, red can increase muscle tension and excitement, while blue encourages patience and serenity. “Green and blue are some of the favorite colors chosen for bedrooms because they bring peace and serenity”.
White tones, on the other hand, are considered purifiers that provide a sense of cleanliness and clarity. They also show elegance and respect. That’s why they are also ideal.
Other recommended colors are orange, which encourages optimism, enthusiasm and fun, and yellow, which is associated with mental activity and creative inspiration.
