UPDATE: Five Dead In Car Accident in Quepos, Costa Rica

A tragic car accident that took place at 5:54 a.m. this Tuesday, December 12 in the area of Route 34 close to the bridge in the area of Portalon de Savegre, Quepos, Puntarenas, caused the death of three people.

The crash involved a sedan and a 4×4, although the causes of the accident are not confirmed, apparently one of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and crashed against the other car; the sedan flew over the safety barrier and caught fire causing the death of the driver and two passengers.

In the other car there were a total of five people, four of them had to be transferred to the Quepos hospital, one in critical state (a woman seven months pregnant), and three with mild injuries; the fifth passenger was in stable condition.

The road remains closed.

Update: 11:00 a.m
. – Rescue authorities confirmed the pregnant woman died in the ambulance as she was being transferred to the hospital. She went into cardiac arrest, the unborn baby also died. Two of the patients transferred to the hospital are minors one 11 and the other 16 years old.
