March 17th through March 19th more than 150 artistic shows will take over San Jose, in the 13th edition of Transitarte Summer Festival.

Transitarte is part of the initiatives of the San José Municipality to provide artistic and cultural events to the population and part of the efforts to recover the use of public spaces, it is also an option for foreign visitors to get to know the Costa Rican culture.

“This is the most important cultural event during summer time, not just in San José, but in the whole country. In the Municipality we believe in culture, a city without culture is a city without soul. It is the engine of the transformation we are making, starting with the recovery of public spaces”, said Johnny Araya, mayor of San José.

The Municipality will invest more than ₡80 million, (approximately $145 thousand dollars), which means it is doubling the budget spent in this event in 2016. According to Araya the activity was losing its appeal and importance, and they hope to make it shine again this year, not just by including more shows and options but also by adding a day of activities.

The Metallic Building, Morazán Park, Spain Park, National Park, and Paseo de las Damas, are among the public spaces that will host the different presentations of the festival.

The activities are thought out to satisfy the interest of different audiences, from kids, teenagers, adults and senior citizens. Music, theater, poetry, stand-up comedy, food trucks, pet section, visual designs and artisan products will be part of the program.
