The National Seismology Network (RSN) informed that the Turrialba Volcano has increased the sporadic eruptions since July 23, with passive emissions of ash.

The ash columns generally reach between 100 and 300 meters above the crater; however, since the evening of August 1st the activity has been more sustained, and a tremor signal has been persistent as per the information gathered by the surveillance cameras and seismic stations of the National Seismology Network. The recent ash columns have been of over 500 meters above the crater, one of them was higher than 1000 meters above the crater.

Even though the eruptions have not reached high altitudes, their frequency has allowed the ash to reach several communities of the Central Valley.

The wind has maintained a direction west-northwest and could reach areas like Coronado, Granadilla, Moravia, San Pedro, San Jose, Zapote, Heredia, areas close to the Irazu Volcano, among others.

A lahar was also reported in the Toro Amarillo River which came from the streams that originate in the west of the Turrialba volcano; the lahar changed the color of the water, which is caused by the ash expelled by the Volcano and dragged by the river water.

Poas Volcano in Alajuela and Rincon de la Vieja in Guanacaste maintain a period of relative calm.
