Holy Week is here and every day more and more people choose to enjoy the holidays at the beach, the Guanacaste beaches always attract a large audience this time of the year, so we have a recommendation of two small secret and secluded beaches in Guanacaste that maybe you haven’t heard off (one ideal for the whole family and another one for the adventurous travelers) which might be a good option to visit if you are looking for a place to hide from the crowds:

Playa La Penca (Penca Beach): Don’t confuse it with the Playa Penca near Flamingo, this one is located in Carrillo, Guanacaste, in between Playas del Coco and Playa Hermosa; last time I checked there wasn’t a sign here, so it is very easy to miss the entrance if you are driving or walking, the entrance is close to the Cacique neighborhood and then you have to take a short walk. Another way to get here is kayaking from Playas del Coco.

This beach has very soft waves, so it is the perfect spot to relax, snorkel (you can easily spot the fish swimming around you), swim, and it is also ideal for young children, the tan sand in contrast with the turquoise waters makes for a postcard image.

Playa Mina: This beach is also known as Zapotillal, but we’ll go by Mina to make it simpler. This is a place you can only go to if you have a 4×4 and you are the adventurous type, the road to get here is in very bad condition, the beach is also completely isolated, in the middle of nowhere so make sure to bring everything you’ll need with you. You can find this beach past Playa Grande and before Brasilito (about 35 minutes from Tamarindo). The waves here can get a bit rough, but aside from this it is gorgeous and most important you probably won’t find more than just a handful of people here.
