Police officials in Costa Rica on Tuesday said they have identified the suspect in a brutal murder of an entire family in the northwestern province of Guanacaste as Adrian Salmerón Silva, saying they believe the man has fled to Nicaragua.

Reports also confirm that one of the victims was a 56-year-old US man.

According to a report by CRHoy.com, the US man was married to a 37-year-old Nicaraguan woman who was allegedly carrying on an affair with the man now suspected of brutally murdering her, her American husband, and three of her children.

Police on Tuesday morning discovered an entire family of five, including three children, brutally murdered in a home in Matapolo de Santa Cruz in Guanacaste, according to numerous official and unofficial sources, including the Ministry of Public Security (MSP), the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ) and child welfare agency, PANI.

The dead include a 13-year-old, 8-year-old, and a 6-year-old child, as well as their mother and father, according to the latest information received by The Costa Rica Star. All five were reportedly stabbed to death. The father was subsequently confirmed to be a 56-year-old man from the United States.

Two other children were also found seriously injured and taken to hospital, one in critical condition, according to the MSP. Those two children are believed to be those of the US man, while the three dead are believed to be those of the man’s Nicaraguan wife, according to unofficial sources.

Police officials said that the murders are believed to have occurred on Sunday.
