This past Wednesday taxi drivers protested on the streets once again demanding sanctions against Uber and actions against this company and the drivers that work for it.

Traffic police carried out operations at the Juan Santamaria Airport against Uber drivers also in response to protest by airport taxi drivers.

Now the U.S. Embassy has received credible information that individual Uber drivers are planning to protest on Monday, May 20, 2019.

“Protestors may gather in San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia, and Cartago at approximately 6am and attempt to slow traffic in those areas”. reads the press release.

The majority of protests in Costa Rica are non-violent in nature. However, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.

Actions to Take:

Avoid the following areas if possible:
o Pista Alajuela
o Ochomogo
o Heredia
o Route 27
o Taras de Cartago

• Avoid crowds and large gatherings.
• Avoid demonstrations and protests.
