– United States Embassy in Costa Rica celebrates sexual diversity month with rainbow flag.

“In previous years we have displayed this flag at the entrance to our embassy, but starting last year, we hoisted it along with the United States flag, so that Costa Rica can see this powerful and symbolic demonstration of our commitment to tolerance, acceptance and equal rights for all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation,” said U.S. Ambassador S. Fitzgerald Haney, who raised the rainbow flag in honor of sexual diversity this morning in front of the embassy.

“The flag raising ceremony is a sign of the U.S. Government support for the LGBTI community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex),” said embassy representatives at the ceremony.

Since 2014, the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica has placed the banner of diversity at the entrance of the Embassy, but in 2016 and 2017 the rainbow flag has been flown alongside that of the United States, so that all who pass in front of the diplomatic seat can see this symbol of support for human rights.

On Sunday, June 25, representatives of the United States Embassy will participate in the annual Diversity March in San José, which they have been present at since 2013.
