NatGeo posted today a beautiful video (included below) of a baby sloth that was rescued in Costa Rica.

The story behind this:

The baby two-toed sloth was rescued in the area of Osa Peninsula, where an expat from Ohio, USA, Dirk Morgan, owner of Morgan’s Jungle Lodge, learned from guests about the sloth holding on to a rock and crying for help in the area known as Punta Tigre, they immediately went to help him, this occurred back in January 15 this year.

Here’s the information posted along with the original video:

“We own an eco lodge in a remote section of Costa Rica. Our guest told us of a baby sloth that they saw about a half mile down the beach on the rocks still alive. We ran down to find it before it died and scared off a couple of dogs who were about to run up on it. We found the rare, young, 2-toe sloth that survived the high tide and a storm overnight. It was wet with salt water and had sand in its eyes. It appeared tired and scared and began to cry out to us as we approached. With no adult sloths in sight we carefully placed him in a box with a towel then took him back to the lodge and rinsed the salt water off its face.”

After the rescue the sloth was taken to Tranquility Rescue Center an animal sanctuary in the area.

Now, two months after being saved, “Guanabana” as he was named, is doing great (Video below); Guanabana is the name of a tropical fruit found in Costa Rica, but is also the name of Morgan’s Jungle Lodge which sadly was affected by a severe fire on January 28th.
