Violence in Nicaragua continues, and this Saturday it left another three fatal victims, among them, a United States citizen.

The death of the three men occurred in confusing circumstances during conflict between mobs.

The American citizen was identified by Nicaraguan authorities as Sixto Henry Vera, 48 years of age and it was attributed to “delinquent groups that operate in the area with firearms and Molotov bombs”; however, other versions given by witnesses assure he was shot by a group of man patrolling in motorcycles and related to the government, Viera was driving in a sector east of Managua apparently on his way to help a friend.

Viera was the owner of a sports bar.

Laura Dogu, ambassador to the United States in Nicaragua twitted: “The government of the United States, expresses its condolences to the family of the U.S. citizen killed last night and to all the families who have recently visited the Forensic Medicine Institute. The death of a U.S. citizen is of great concern to our Embassy”.

Humanitarian organizations affirm that the death toll so far is of over 100 victims.

On May 31, Vice-President of the United States Mike Pence stated that the United States “condemns the attacks by pro-government armed groups that claimed the lives of 11 innocents in Nicaragua”.
