Low-cost airline Volaris Costa Rica has provided all the details pertaining to the opening of three new routes that will connect Costa Rica to the United States.

The first route will begin operating March 15 and it will connect San Jose, Costa Rica with Los Angeles, California, via San Salvador, this flight will operate every Thursday and Sunday going from San Jose to San Salvador and finally Los Angeles while leaving from Los Angeles the flights will be Mondays and Fridays; a second route connecting these two destinations but via Guatemala will be inaugurated March 17 with flights out of Costa Rica on Saturdays and out of Los Angeles on Sundays.

San Jose – New York (JFK) will be the second route going also through San Salvador starting April 17 also with a two day frequency, Tuesdays and Fridays from San Jose and Wednesdays and Saturdays from NY; and the third route to Washington D.C. (IAD) will kick off May 16, flying twice a week Monday and Wednesday from Costa Rica and out of Washington on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Tickets can now be purchased with a special price for flights next year with rates starting at $99 for a one-way ticket, taxes included.

Back in September 21st Volaris received the temporary authorization to operate in airports in the United States despite the objections of Southwest Airlines that claimed Volaris Costa Rica is not owned by Costa Rican citizens as required by the US-Costa Rica Air Transport Agreement, but instead by a Mexican company, and therefore, they consider that the company is looking to gain special privileges through its Costa Rican subsidiary, a situation that would put US carriers at a competitive disadvantage. Volaris, however, concluded that Volaris was able to prove that effective control of the airline lies with Costa Rica
