Costa Rica begins the week with a total of 612 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 295 women and 317 men; 569 Costa Rican and 43 foreigners.

There are positive cases in 59 counties of the seven provinces througout the country.

According to the information given by the Ministry of Health, there are 20 patients hospitalized, 14 of which remain in the intensive care unit.

On a positive note, 62 people have recovered from the virus which means they have taken two tests that have resulted negative.

Three people have died, Costa Rica is currently the Central American country that presents the lowest mortality rate in Latin America.

A total 6,256 people have tested negative.

The Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, showed his concern after noticing the movement in the streets and number of cars on the roads this Monday.

“I want to make reference to the evolution of Covid in our country, which has not occurred, but we are at the doors of this happening, and I don’t want it to, but the behavior we have seen today is a bad omen… What we are seeing in the streets will have repercussions”, commented Salas.

Salas also made emphasis in the fact that there could be a large number of people that do not present any symptoms and that could still transmit the virus to others. “There are may people in the streets without any symptoms and that could have the virus (…). We cannot trust that if we are interacting with someone who has no cough or fever, we are safe and we won’t get sick”, he said.

Not touching your face, avoiding gatherings and crowds, maintaining social distance and washing your hands remain the strongest measures to prevent the virus.
