The World Surf League (WSL), gave the organization a total of 5 wildcards for Costa Rican surfers; two of these were assigned by RPM TV to the Surf Federation of Costa Rica and the other three were in the hands of the producer.

RPM TV, decided to invest their spaces into three Junior figures: Aronne Ramírez (U16), Kenneth Peralta and Zulay Martínez, the latter will be planted in Round 2.

“We want to take advantage of an event of this magnitude, to bet from now on junior figures who have started to stand out in the sport“, said Warren Báez, Senior Director of RPM TV.

For its part, the Federation decided to deliver the two wildcards to the national champions, one for Anthony Fillingim and the other for Rubiana Brownwell; however, because the two athletes had already registered in the event they decided to donate their wildcards two other young promising national surfers, Sebastian Mora (U18) and Rachell Agüero (U12).

Twenty-two men are registered for Costa Rica: Carlos “Cali” Muñoz, Noe Mar McGonagle, Jairo Pérez, Anthony Fillingim, Tomas King, Malakai Martínez, Esteban Chávez, Aldo Chirinos, Sam Reidy, Cedric McCrackin, Bruno Moggi, Anthony Flores, Darshan Antequera , Andre Chacón, Óscar Urbina, Axel Castro, Carlos Urbina, Bruno Carvalho, Carlos Brown; and the three that entered by wildcards Aronne Ramírez, Kenneth Peralta and Sebastian Mora.

The list of participating women is the following: Eva Woodland, Coral Wiggins, Paulina Summers, Nataly Bernold, Ryan Auxiela, Rubiana Brownell, and the aforementioned Zulay Martinez and Rachell Aguero.

The producer RPM TV, invites all lovers of surfing and the general public to enjoy this great event, which is completely free; The main competition will be held in front of the Best Western Hotel in Jaco Beach.

This event will distribute 23 million colones (almost $40,000.00 USD) in prizes between the best of the WQS 1500. The Essential Costa Rica Surf Pro kicks off this Thursday, October 4 in Jaco and will extend through Sunday.
