Woman Dies in Burning Car After Multi Car Collision on Route 27 Costa Rica

The afternoon of this Saturday, October 14 a multiple collision between three vehicles and a truck on Route 27 (San José-Caldera) caused a car to catch fire while the driver, a 54-year-old woman was not able to escape the burning vehicle.

The accident took place close to 1 p.m. and occurred between Atenas and Orotina, in the road that connects San José to Caldera in kilometer 47.

Apparently the driver of the truck lost control of the same for reasons still unknown and crashed the three vehicles, just a few minutes after the accident one of the cars caught fire and the driver was trapped inside the vehicle.

The firefighters that attended the emergency commented that when they arrived the woman was already dead.

The road San José-Caldera was reopened at almost 9 p.m.

In total 8 patients were evaluated, 6 of them without any injuries while 2 were taken to the hospital to receive medical attention but were in stable condition and out of any danger.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
