The world’s longest zip line opened at the end of January on Jebel Jais, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) highest mountain, in the adventure emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, this incredible project was designed and built by Costa Ricans.

“At over 2.8 kilometers long it is the equivalent to over 28 soccer fields in length and it’s suspended 1,680 meters above sea level. Riders enjoy incredible views of Jebel Jais at average speeds of 120kph-150kph, before landing on a unique suspended platform”, explains the promotional video by the Tourism Development Authority.

Costa Rican architect José Manuel Pizarro was in charge of the design of this project , while the construction was done by Pizarro’s company Linea vertical along with AM architects and Toro Verde from UAE.

This zip line was certified by Guinness World Records, it beats the previous 2.2km world record in Puerto Rico by a full 600 meters of extra heart-pumping adrenaline; the zip line in Puerto Rico was also designed by Pizarro.

The zip line will be able to accommodate 200 people a day (100,000 per year), suspended above the mountain as they prepare to take the flight headfirst in a ‘superman’ style position.
